--Along with local trails you can also attend large events like regional hashes (Pacific North West Inter Hash, Texas Inter Hash, Gold Rush H3, and so many more), national hashes (Inter Americas, Nash Hash, Euro Hash, and more), and then you have the biggest one of all the Inter Hash. All these hashes are not just show up for a few hours and you are done, nope! Typically they are a 3 day (Fri, Sat, & Sun) event and most often they have pre and post events with them.--
--30 Oct-2 Nov 2025 in New Orleans, Louisiana--
Just think about this: 1,300 hashers in New Orleans over Halloween weekend!!! Like most of my travels with or for hashing, I typically do more than just the event days in the area. The girlfriend and I left on Tue, 28 Oct and returned Mon, 3 Nov. I learned the hard way never plan to leave on the Sunday on a large event. It was Legally Nakked in Tampa Bay, FL in 2009 that I made and learned this mistake. I missed my Sunday flight and had to wait 5 more days to fly out. This is a story for another time; now back to Inter America 2025 (InterAm25).
Let me back up to July 2025. We knew there were going to be costumes, duh. So we, the girlfriend and I had a few easy ideas. Then I saw an InterAm25 hash post of this really cool mask that was made of leather. I knew right there and then I need to step up my costume game!!! So I searched the internet for ideas. I found an image that called to me like the raven that calls out “never more,” and so I never searched for more images. Then I saw it, a Shaman Warrior all in blue with a raven on his arm! I had used raven skeletons for my costume at the Inter Hash in New Zealand not too long ago. Over the next week I had a few sleepless nights. The only way to get sleep was to just get up and draw or write out my image on paper.
Once everything was on paper I started to design the costume. I had half a cow hid from an old project that was not finished that I could use to make parts of the costume. I was able to design and fabricate a chest piece, a set of pauldrons over both shoulders, wrist guards, and a utility belt with the leather. I cut, dyed, hand sewed, and built every piece. I wanted to be bigger than I am; I am only 69 inches tall and 169 pounds. How do I make myself appear huge! Well my shoulder pauldrons sat up high and stick out past my shoulders and I bought boots with a 4 inch left. The girlfriend was very jealous over these boots.
I bought pre dyed feathers; this is the most expensive item. I added feathers around the pauldron and the belt. I added feathers to my warrior staff. I even made “in honor of” awards out of the feathers that hung from the staff. I went to a thrift store and bought a queen bed sheet. This I used to sew pants and a shirt. The warrior staff was from my hash flag pole. It stood about 7 feet tall but could be dismantled to one foot sections each. My leather pieces I was able to dismantle so it would all fit into a large shoe box. I must say I did pretty well, though it took over a month to design and build. Look through my photos and see what you think. Leave me a comment if you would like.
