--Along with local trails you can also attend large events like regional hashes (Pacific North West Inter Hash, Texas Inter Hash, Gold Rush H3, and so many more), national hashes (Inter Americas, Nash Hash, Euro Hash, and more), and then you have the biggest one of all the Inter Hash. All these hashes are not just show up for a few hours and you are done, nope! Typically they are a 3 day (Fri, Sat, & Sun) event and most often they have pre and post events with them.--

Saturday I was up early and heading to the Hash Hotel to catch the bus at 8:30 am. From the start the hares told us DO NOT “zen” on this trail or you will be sorry. A lot of us “Front Running Bastards/Bimbos” (FRB) like to zen so we can stay in the front of the pack. Zening is when you think you know how to get to where you should be without following marks. Sometimes it works great and you are in the lead in a few steps, while other times you just find yourself in all the wrong bars at the wrong time of day. This trail was supposed to be the longer trail but it sounds like several trails have similar millage after all said and done. I ran over 9 miles with a bunch of strong runners. I was in the lead maybe 2 times but it was not long lived. The hares had some great tricks up their sleeve to keep us guessing and staying together. Only 1 Beer Stop on this trail.
A small amount of us had finished the trail when we looked off in the distance, about 200 feet away and saw some slower hashers following trail through the woods and swamp. One of then saw us and started to zen. She quickly changed her mind and headed back to the marked trail… until we all started yelling to her to come on it is this way, just do it, its ok, and you got this type of thing! Well her half mind got the better of her and she started to listen to all of us. She was now zening! We all encouraged her until she just disappeared in the tall grass. The crowd was silent until about 6.9 minutes later as she pops her head up. We yield with joy and she keep moving forward. Finally she arrives and we can see what happened. She fell into a muddy pit all the way up to her… stomach! We all laughed our butts off and then gave her a beer! There might be a photo somewhere showing how bad it was.
At the closing circle the hares were in need of a volunteer so I stepped up and they made me the beer bitch. This means I am in charge of filling all the vessels for circle as hashers get punished or honored for things they have or haven’t done. This had its benefits, I was right up front seeing all the craziness, and I got all the beers I wanted to drink. One shot for you, one shot for me, and repeat!
On the bus ride back, which was about an hour long, one hasher called “Haz” helped keep us entertained, we call this the “bus RA.” Haz is well known within the hash community. His is probably the most traveled hasher in the world. He is also the most knowledgeable with the hash history. He gave us some history about the hash that most don’t know. He also said he is going to publish a hash book about the history in the near future. I do look forward to reading his book. Haz did a great job as well as the hares, thank you for volunteering.
Once we got back round 5:30ish pm it was time for the “patch whore event.” This is for those that love to collect individual patches. Some for trade and some you have to complete a challenge. Not everyone does this. Well I finally jumped on this band wagon after 20 years. I now have my own patch and patch challenge. If you want to know and see more about my patch I have a section called “Dirty’s Patches.” Please check it out. Luvky for me I did have a few hasher that were interested in my patch. I also took part in a few of their challenges as well. Fun times and lots of laughs with this event!
After the patch whoring we had some yummy food that was put on by the InterAm25 New Orleans hash committee. Then we decided to have some fun on the town. We would enjoy many bars and have many stories with new and old friends.
